Taking Pepto Bismal the night before can cause it. Happened to me this morning.
AnswerThis is true! I took Pepto Bismal last night and was shocked to see that my tongue was black this morning! A few passes with the toothbrush took care of it though, so no worries.

∙ 14y agoIf your dog is young, many breeds originating from Asia have pure black tongues (Chow chow, Shiba Inu, Akita) if your dog is a mixed breed, this could be his heritage showing itself. If your dog is older, the cells in his tongue could be dying and you should probably see a vet.
