∙ 12y agoThe Java Programming Language and most of the Java technologies (reference implementation, specification, core library, etc.) were relicensed by Sun under the GNU General Public License (or simply GPL) through the Java Community Process.
This essentially defines the Java Language and core software as free software.
While some high-end Java tools are commercial products, many Java IDEs and tools such as Eclipse are open source and free.
