It killed people. It closed schools, it knocked out electricity, it made the sky go dark, not to mention the emotional distress. Not a fun time.
The magma that collected under Mt. St. Helens was a frothy dacite, containing relatively large amounts of dissolved gases. When suddenly released from pressure, the gas bubbles explosively escape, generating significant energy and pulverizing much of the rock into fine ash.
It is a nice conspiracy story, but the John St Helens of Granbury, Texas and the David George of Enid, Oklahoma who once used the St Helens name and persona were not Lincoln's assassin despite deathbed confessions.
