Both units are based on the imperial Pounds per Square Inch (PSI).

The suffix A refers to Absolute pressure, while G refers to Gauge pressure. Gauge pressure is defined as the difference between the measured pressure and atmospheric pressure.

Most pressure measuring devices (gauges) measure the gauge pressure, as one side of the gauge is exposed to atmospheric pressure.

What does PSIG indicate?

Psig (pound-force per square inch gauge) is a unit of pressure relative to atmospheric pressure at sea level. By contrast, psia measures pressure relative to a vacuum (such as that in space). Most pressure gauges, such as tire gauges, are calibrated to read zero at sea level, because most applications require the difference of pressure. At sea level, Earth's atmosphere actually exerts a pressure of 14.695948804 psi. If a pressure gauge is calibrated to read zero in space, then at sea level on Earth it would read 14.695948804 psi. Thus a reading of 30 psig on a tire gauge, represents an absolute pressure of 44.695948804 psi.

What does psi stands for?

Among other things, it may refer to a non-standard (non-SI) unit of pressure, "pounds per square inch".Psi is a Greek letter in the Greek alphabet (uppercase Ψ) (lowercase ψ).When it is used in mathematical form it is called The Reciprocal Fibonacci Constant (Fibonacci discovered it) and it equals approximately 3.35988566243177553172011302918927...

What is the difference between psia and psig readings?

No. Humans do not feel this pressure because internal pressure of liquid in their bodies matches the external pressure. If a pressure gauge is calibrated to read zero in space, then at sea level on Earth it would read 14.695948804 psi. Thus a reading of 30 psig on a tire gauge, represents an absolute pressure of 44.695948804 psi. ^^^ The last sentence assumes a greater level of precision than could be obtained from most standard tire gauges. If we assume that 1 psi can be distinguished on the gauge, then the absolute pressure would have to be expressed as 45 psi.

R134a high and low pressure readings?

For a home air conditioning unit 35 psig low and 125 - 150 psig high (depending on outdoor temp) are desirable.

What means psig?

In standard English: "What does psig mean?" The abbreviation stands for pounds per square inch gauge. PSI is a standard unit of pressure, which may be converted to/from Pascals. "Gauge" here means relative to surrounding atmospheric pressure. So a reading of 100 psig means a pressure of 100 psi *above* the atmospheric pressure, which is around around 14.7 psi at sea level, making 114.7 psi absolute pressure.

What is the proper refrigerant psi on 1998 Chevy Tahoe?

The term would be psig not psi. Proper psig for any a/c unit auto or not is a 40 degree evaporator and you would convert 40 to psig runningng a pressure temperature chart with engine running at 1500 rpm. I its usin R-134A the psig that equals 40 degrees Fahrenheit is 34.9 psig =40 degrees Fahrenheit at 1500 rpm. In fact , 34.9 psig is the pressure for 40 degrees no matter how many rpm. Use 40 and be safe. Don't forget ,40 psig at idle will be much lower as rpm rises and evaporator could freeze up depending on humidity and ambient temp of truck inside.

What is the reading for the low side pressure for the air conditioning?

It depends on the SEER of the unit. Higher SEER units have higher low side pressures. It also depends on the temperature of the inside of the dwelling unit. The higher the space temperature, the higher the evaporating temperature, higher pressure. Normally, a 10 SEER unit will run in the ballpark of 70 PSIG.

What does bar pressure stand for and psi?

In the SI system the pressure unit is the Pascal (after the French maths genius) which is defined as 1 Newton per square meter. This is a very small unit. Atmospheric pressure is about 105 Pascals, and this is called the Bar. You have probably seen in weather forecasts the pressure given in millibars, the normal atmospheric pressure is 1000 mb, and the equal pressure contours on the weather maps give the millibar figure. These contours are called Isobars, as they are lines of constant pressure.Psi stands for pounds per square inch, which is I imagine easier to grasp, and is probably more widely used in the US. In Europe and the UK, in power plants and other industries, the pascal - kilopascal - bar units are used. I was brought up on psi and had to convert mid life, I have got used to bars but find kilopascals don't come easily. It is useful to remember that 1 bar = 14.5 psi. You will also come across psig, which just means pressure aboveatmospheric, it stands for psi gauge, as a gauge normally reads zero at atmospheric pressure. If you see psia, this means psi absolute, the pressure above vacuum, where atmospheric pressure = 14.5 psia.

Unit of 1 atmosphere used to describe the pressure of gas?

Standard atmospheric pressure at sea level is equal to : 101325 Pa ....[ 1.0 Pa = 1.0 N / m^2 ] 101.325 kPa 1013.25 millibar 14.696 psia 2116 psfa 760 mm Hg 29.92 in Hg These equivalents to one atmosphere pressure are very convenient for making pressure unit conversions.

Is the SI unit for pressure only for fluids?

The definition of pressure is (total force on an area) divided by (the area). Do you see anything in that definition that mentions fluid, solid, or gas ?

What is the specific weight of water at 250 degrees F under 15 psig?

I noticed you wrote "psig." That is the abbreviation for pound-force per square inch, gauge. That's a slightly different unit than "psi." If the gauge is reading 15 psi, then the water is under a bit more than two atmospheres of pressure, since the true pressure is the gauge reading plus 14.7. [More to follow soon.]
