There are a couple of differences. Normally, a meeting is of only one company's people, whereas a convention brings people from different companies together. The other difference is that at a convention there will be outside vendors. If it's a restaurant convention, all sorts of companies that sell things to restaurants will buy booths and display their products to the restaurant owners. If it's a Joe's Crab Shack manager's meeting, they don't need to do that because corporate buys all their stuff for them.
