What is a laminated windshield glass?

Laminated windshields consist of 3 pieces. Two pieces of glass and a piece of laminate in between. This is done so when the windshield shatters or breaks, it stays together. Therefore large pieces of glass do not get on passengers and it also acts as a barrier to keep some things from coming into the vehicle after the glass is broken. The laminate can also be tinted which is how some windshields have the tinted strip across the top.

How do I find a new windshield for my car and where would it be installed?

If your windshield is broken, the best thing to do is take your car to a repair shop for your brand of car. Windshields vary wildly between various cars meaning it is difficult to go shopping for your own. The most reliable thing to do is talk to your cars maker who will have information and access to the exact windshield you need.

1997 Cadillac Eldorado have rain sensor windshield?

Most do - it's not visible from the driver's seat, but between the rear view mirror and windshield, glued to windshield would be this plastic (about 3x3 and a half inch thick) module, visible from the passenger side and aslo visible from outside - look closely. And if you ever change windshields, MAKE SURE to retain that sensor module, or you may disable your windshield washer!

Can cracked windshield fall out?

The answer is no the windshield will not fall out. If you need any more information just go to http://windshieldhouston.com Early windshields were made of ordinary window glass, when you got into an accident and hit your head on the windshield it lead to serious injuries. Those old windshields were replaced with windshields made of toughened glass and were fitted in the frame using a rubber, neoprene seal or glued with a special bonding agent. The hardened glass shattered into many mostly harmless fragments when the windshield broke. These windshields, however, could shatter from a simple stone chip. In 1919, Henry Ford solved the problem of flying debris by using a new technology founded in France called glass laminating. Windshields made using this process were actually two layers of glass with an inner layer. This inner layer held the glass together when it fractured. Between 1919 and 1929, Ford ordered the use of laminated glass on all of his vehicles, it may have been a direct reason for an increase in auto sales. The modern windshield, is glued to the frame, this contributes to the vehicle's rigidity, but the main reason for the development of the windshield has been the need to prevent injury from glass fragments. Modern windshields, now in almost every nation it's required by law, do not fragment, but tend to stay in one piece even if broken, except if struck locally by a strong force. Properly installed automobile windshields are also essential to safety, "so make sure your auto glass installer is certified in replacement"; along with the roof of the car, they provide protection in the case of a roll-over accident in the vehicle. The windshield is the back bone of the roof.

What is the difference between 1974 volkswagon beetle and 1974 super beetle?

AnswerThe super beetle has a curved windshield and different front suspension. There may be other differences. AnswerThe superbeetle is completely different from the windshield forward. It had the curved windshield, strut suspension instead of torsion beam ,and a redesigned trunk area for more space. The easiest way to spot the difference is the windshield, or the spare tire. In standard beetles it stands up, in supers it lays down. From the windshield back they are essentially the same car. True for the '74, but some Super Beetles had flat windshields. The easiest way to distinguish between the two types is to look at the front hood. On all Super Beetles the indentations on the hood are wider at the bottom, on either side of the latch handle. On regular Beetles the hood indentations are pointed at the bottom.Another answerONLY Super Beetles have Strut front suspensions.

What kind of glass is a windshield made of?

Vehicular windshields are made of laminated auto glass. There is a polymer layer between the glass sheets that provides a "flexible strength" to the glass to keep it from breaking into large, sharp pieces. The advantages of this type of glass in a windshield are pretty obvious. Links can be found below to check facts and learn more.
