To be hired as a Patient Care Technician ANYWHERE you have to be a Certified Nursing Assistant/Aide first. I am a Certified Patient Care Technician. Research the school you are looking at and make SURE they give you the Certified Nursing Assistant/Aide Certification test along with your Patient Care Technician Certification! I took the Patient Care Technician program at a Business school in Michigan and passed the Certification test administered by NCCTINC ( GO TO www.NCCTINC.com ) I could not get a job anywhere except Davita Dialysis. A Dialysis Technician/Patient Care Technician, where requirements to be hired are: a High School Diploma or GED, and a CPR Certification (where you can take a short class at your local red cross to get CPR Certified). Every Patient Care Technician job at a hospital requires Nurse Aide/Assistant Certification. CERTIFIED NURSE ASSISTANTS DO THE DIRTY WORK NURSES DO NOT HAVE TIME FOR: ASSIST WITH PERSONAL CARE, SHOWER, CLEAN UP BOWEL MOVEMENT, BLOOD, OR URINE MESSES, HELP WITH EVERYTHING A SICK, DISABLED, OR THE ELDERLY NEED HELP WITH. A CERTIFIED PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN DOES ALL THAT PLUS CAN DO CATHETER CARE, COLOSTOMY CARE, CARE WITH ANY TUBING COMING OUT OF THE BODY THAT NURSING ASSISTANTS CANT TOUCH. IT DEPENDS ON THE STATE, SOME PCT'S (OR ALSO CALLED PATIENT CARE ASSOCIATES) CAN GIVE MEDICATION, DRAW BLOOD, PUT IN AND SET UP INTRAVENOUS INFUSIONS ( IV'S), AND OTHER MORE SERIOUS THINGS. Most Nurse Aides are trained to become Patient care Technician's, there is NO NEED TO PAY MONEY FOR A CERTIFICATION AS A PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN UNLESS YOU RECIEVE THE NURSE ASSISTANT/AIDE CERTIFICATION WITH IT! I wish I would of researched schools first accept just going to one that sounded good.

A Medical Assistant works in medical offices, or group practices, sometimes health clinics, and hospitals under the direct supervision of a medical doctor or licensed healthcare practitioner. Medical assistants in the USA are not required to be certified, so a certified medical assistant is a medical assistant that voluntarily sat for the certification exam (AAMA) to earn the credentials of a Certified Medical Assistant, thus showing credibility and professionalism. A Nurses Aide works primarily in hospitals or nursing homes for the elderly under the direct supervision of a RN or LPN nurse. In the same manner as the medical assistant, the Nurses Aide has voluntarily taken the certification exam to earn the credential of being certified.

Which is a better career move Medical Assistant Patient Care Tech or Billing coding?

Medical office technologist is someone who learns how an office runs and can work as a medical receptionist or a medical office assistant assisting the physician. A medical assistant strictly works with the doctor. Take the medical office technology course if you are trying to decide between the two. That way you can apply for positions in an office for the front or the back where the medical assistant is strictly the back part of the office. You can however start as a medical assistant to learn about the processes and system of a medical office and then proceed on to be a medical office technologist or manager. This way, you can have a good experience before you get to a tougher position.

What qualities project a professional image in an administrative medical assistant?

don't know don't care : okay first of all. for whoever wrote " don't know don't care" that is just so dumb. if you don't have anything useful to write, then don't write anything at all. : : some personal qualities that are needed for success in the medical assistant career would have to be communication skill , patience and have to have the ability to work in a rapid pace while doing the best that can be done. another thing. it is crucial that medical assistants are very well groomed. the medical assistant is basically the first person the patient is going to see and if the medical assistant looks bad . smells awful then the patient might think twice about going back.just remember that the medical assistants do represent the image of the clinic .
