Good question. The Blue Book Store Brand Cross Over List says the 583.20 is a High Standard Flight King and 583.17 a High Standard but no model name or number is given. A range of Sears ID numbers will often be the same gun sold in a different year, but in this case there is a .18 and .2 between these models and they are Harrington & Richardson guns. I'd still bet that both these guns are the Flight King. actually 583 17 &583 20 Were made by high standard They are the known as the sears model 10 bolt action repeating shotgun the 583 17 was made in 1949 the 583 20 series was made in 1952 both gun are almost identical the 583 20 has some minor improvements in any case both gun are based on the the H&R 120 and have nothing to do whats so ever with High Standard model 200 flighte king pump shotgun

How old is your jc Higgins 58317 12 gauge shotgun?

They were made in the 1950s. In 2005, Sears instituted a safety recall on their bolt action shotguns in that model. This is a non-repairable problem. Sears was reported to be offering a $50 gift card in exchange for the bolt from these shotguns (missing bolt makes them nonshootable)

What is the value of a browning sweet 18 automatic ser 58317 50 years old?

I think you may have meant a "Browining Sweet 16" instead of "18", which is a Belgum-made Browning shotgun. The value of the gun depends on its condition. In good condition the value should range somewhere between $900 to $1,200. But depending on the area where you are, the value could be higher or lower.

I have A J C Higgins model 58317 Can you tell me something about it?

your gun was known as the J C Higgins model 10 .A six shot bolt action repeating shotgun. Sears owned the patten right wich it bought from Harrington and & Richardson your shotgun is 12 gauge and manufactured in 1948 by High Standard .Sears owned all of High Standards Rifle and Shotgun manufacturing and all of the patten rights in those days. Your shotgun is real Sears product . They are one of the better bolt action shotguns out there. How ever Sears sold a lot of them they are quite common as far as old guns go in very good shape I have seen them sell for 150 bucks average value 100 dollars . What you have is fine old shotgun from granpa's day. They are usually very good guns
