What is the difference between the M1 Garand and the M1 Carbine?

The M1 Garand is a full size rifle and shoots the 30-06 rifle round. The M1 carbine is a much smaller rifle for personal defence that shoots a 30 cal. round ,far less powerful then the 30-06 at long range shooting (though the Carbine was never intended for long range combat) but does great damage at close/medium range. The Garand was issued to foot soldiers the carbine was normally issued to men such as radio men,mortar men, paratroopers etc. Many men liked them because the shorter carbine was easy to use in vehicles and buildings, was lighter, faster and easier to bring up to eye-level, and did more damage to human targets at close range, and less collateral damage than the 30-06 did. The Garand was loaded by an En Bloc clip, holding eight rounds, effective out to 900+ yards, while the Carbine had a box magazine holding 15 rounds, effective to 300 yards (though ideal range is 150 yards and under)
