The user name is what the person chooses when he or she first creates a new e mail account. This is most typically their first name and surname (e.g.Gordon Brown or they may choose their initial(s) and surname (e.g. G.Brown_ or else make it a nickname or some title they like that represents them or their business, e.g. One Eyed Scot. It is entirely up to them what they choose as user name.
The e mail address can be the same or different from the user name. It may start with the account holder's first name and surname or else initial and surname either with a dot between them e.g. gordon.brown or all as one word. e.g. gordonbrown. But in most cases the combination the person may have first wanted to choose to be his e mail address may have already been taken and registered by somebody else e.g. a different Gordon Brown living in England registered with the same internet Service Provider. So something may need to be changed or added, most typically one or more figures, so they perhaps make it gordonbrown83 instead of just gordonbrown
Alternatively they can choose a nickname or anything else they like to represent them spelled however they wish. e.g. oneeyedscot. After the e mail name chosen the @ sign is automatically followed by their Internet Service Provider's identity, which may or may not include the country code. e.g. gordonbrown83@yahoo.co.uk
