The engineer is usually the designer and the tech is the "fixer".

The difference is that Computer engineer (standalone) is more theoretical and design. It's a little more difficult schooling wise and is paid much better. Add the Technology and you get more hands on and you'd work more in the lab. Technology specialization means you'd be the engineers assistant basically. It depends greatly on if you have the skills to be a engineer, which is totaly different than dealing with information technology. My suggestion is to do some research on what an engineer does which in my opinion is quite in depth compared to information tech.

Your best choice will be either Computer Science or a degree in Information Technology. The IT degree will be easier, as Computer Science often involves complicated programming courses.

Computer science generally refers the study of the theoretical foundations of information and computation and their implementation and application in computer systems.A computer engineer is trained to work on both software and hardware and integrate the two. Common tasks include writing embedded software for real-time microcontrollers, designing VLSI chips, working with analog sensors, designing mixed signal circuit boards, and designing operating systems.Information technology is a broad subject concerned with technology and other aspects of managing and processing information.

Computer engineering Computer engineers usually have training in electronic engineering (or electrical engineering, s/w design, and hardware-software integration to develop computer systems. computer engineer usually develop system program, VLSI and circuit board design etc. on the other handInformation Technology Engineering much focus on retrieving, transmitting and processing information in world using computers and telecommunication. IT professionals perform a variety of functions that range from installing application to designing complex computer network and information database.

There are several possible degrees--you would need one in Electrical Engineering, or Information Technology or Computer Systems. There's several ways to get at what you want to do.

I think the difference lies in the projects they work on. A computer engineer and software engineer can both do software, but computer engineers typically work on some of the hardware aspect of their project as well. The way I see it, I see a lot of computer engineers work on embedded software/hardware, and software engineers work more on software applications. There are two types of computer engineers, software engineer and hardware engineer software engineers mainly do software stuff and hard engineers work with computer parts

Civil Engineers work on infrastructure development and maintenance, and Civil Computer Engineers due the same with computers

User Avatar

Science is always used in computer engineering because you need to work with technology. When you work as a computer engineer, you need to know how to create technology, so you need to work with science to do that.

Information technology (IT)is a broad subject concerned with technology and other aspects of managing and processing information, especially in large organizations. This is really good for individuals who don't like math because it offer less math courses even though you have to take accounting courses. You can get jobs such as database administrator, webmaster, programmer, software engineer, telecommunications, management, computer security analyst, etc. Computer science is the study of the theoretical foundations of information and computation and their implementation and application in computer systems. Good for jobs like software engineering, hardware engineering, computer science professor, programmer, etc.
