There is likely no difference for most breeds.
AKC = American Kennel Club (founded in 1884) currently a nonprofit organization.
UKC = United Kennel Club (founded 1898) currently privately owned by Wayne R. Cavanagh.
You can obtain a dual registration from CKC for your AKC registered Dog. AKC does not recognize CKC (Continental Kennel Club). Therefore your litter would need to be CKC registered. You can print out your applications at www.ckcusa.com
A person may register his dog with the UKC over the AKC if he has a breed not currently recognized by the AKC. The UKC recognizes over 350 breeds including the American Pit Bull Terrier. This also applies to some imported lesser known breeds that may be ineligible to be registered with the AKC.
If the dogs are UKC and one is ADBA then yes you can register them both.
Anywhere from free (a non-registered, non neutered one from a website such as craigslist) to 2000 USD (a well behaved, well socialized, AKC/UKC registered dog). All depends on quality.
The American Pitbull Terrier is not recognized by the AKC. It is in the UKC terrier group. The American Staffordshire Terrier is in the AKC terrier group
You can get replacement papers by contacting UKC directly. You have to be the registered owner of the dog.Go to the link below to get detailed instructions.
I'm going to answer this based on AKC (American Kennel Club) because I don't know how UKC or other Kennel Clubs does this. The answer is no, not in the same way. But you could apply for your dog to be registered in PAL (Purebred Alternative Listing) for purebred dogs with one or no registered parents.

Unless you have lineage papers from the breeder/ owner on parents of puppies, I have been told you can not get AKC registered. To my understanding, it is one of the ways to protect standards of the different breeds. You can get UKC registration form on-line with full explanation. I think you need 2 photos (front, side) plus signed paper from vet stating, to their knowledge, your dog/puppy is of certain breed. (This paper can be found on-line as well.) Newer technology has also allowed owners to get DNA samples from their dogs and have it tested; a little pricey though.
Call UKC and they can tell you what to do. You can get a 5 generation pedigree from them, I know. Thier number is 269-343-9020
check the kennel club the dog is registered in. www.akc.org is the American Kennel Club's website. If the dog's from that kennel club, you follow the links to the pedigrees. You should be able to order it if you have the registration information for your dog. If you have not been provided AKC registration papers for your puppy from the breeder or you have acquired an older dog you believe to be a purebred you can register him/her with an AKC Indefinite Listing Privelege (ILP) registration. The dog must be neutered or spayed for this but can compete in AKC competitons other than conformation showing. You can find requirements and forms at AKC.org.
North Carolina? The AKC has an office in Raleigh, so there are bound to be several trials in that area. You'd have to check the AKC/USDAA/NADAC/UKC/CPE/TDAA websites to see of any upcoming trials in your area.
