I BELIEVE it is 4 quarts. Put in 4 quarts, and then check your dipstick. I know 3100's and 3400's are 4.5quarts but the newer engine is different.
While owning a car, it is important to know the engines oil capacity. The oil capacity of this engine is 3.1 liters or about 5 quarts of engine oil with an oil filter change.
5QTS. with new filter.
4.5 quarts, a typical GM oil capacity in I4 and V6 engines.
7 qts on the 4.2 liter engine.
5.9 quarts of synthetic motor oil meeting GM-LL-A-025 (capacity is 6.3 quarts or 6 litres but not all the oil drains out)
The oil capacity should be about five quarts. Try adding four during an oil change and check the level with the disstick. If it's still a little low, add another quart.
GM. did not put a 350 engine in there trucks in 2000 You either have a 6.0L, 5.3L or 4.8L and the oil pump is not in the oil pan. It is built into the timing chain cover on the front of the engine. aftually the year 2000 was the last year that GM put a 350 engine in their 2500 and 3500 series trucks and the oil pump is in the oil pan attached with one bolt and two lineup pins. when you get the oil pump from the parts house you have to install the screen tube which comes seperatly, before installing the pump its self. with this being a 3500 series truck you can remove the oil pan with the engine still in place. it also gives you more room if you also remove the oil filter housing.

this is normal, when the car is cold or off. the oil sinks down in to the oil pan.,. If this is a GM engine you may be using an aftermarket oil filter that allows oil to drain back this is not a good thing and can cause engine damage. GM has a TSB on this very problem.
