Esther risked her life by approaching the king without being summoned, which was against the law. She did this in order to plead for the lives of her people, the Jews, who were facing the threat of extermination. This act required courage and faith in herself and her beliefs.
Although Esther faced potential personal danger in approaching the king with her request, her faith enabled her to go ahead with it. She requested that her people fast beforehand. As a result, the Jewish people were saved.
The Fast of Esther is the easiest of the fasts. On the minor fasts, you can eat in the night preceding, as long as you stop before dawn. Eat light but nourishing foods such as fish and whole grains. and drink plenty of water.
