I believe the firing order is still 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 on those V8 engines. (Check it out though to be sure).
Using a compression gauge, bring the number 1 cylinder to top dead centre of the compression stroke. Now remove the distributor cap, and note where the rotor is pointing. put the cap back on and align it so that the number 1 plug wire on the distributor is. Cylinder 1 is ready to fire, so set the rest of your spark plug wires on the cap according to the firing order.
and i wasn't too confusing.

The firing order should be 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.
The firing order for all Chevy 350's is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 The firing order for all 305's is 1-8-7-2-6-5-4-3 Wrong. The firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 for all Gen I and Gen II V8 is the same.
Same as firing order 18436572.
A 79 shouldn't have points to gap. It should be an HEI distributor.
looking from the top of the motor, the distributor turns clockwise. If you have a vaccum advance mounted, the vaccum line is always pointing opposite the rotation.
1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2 is the firing order
=== ===
1 - 5 - 3 - 6 - 2 - 4 The distributor rotor turns CLOCKWISE The marked # 1 position on the distributor cap faces AWAY from the engine The engine cylinders are numbered 1 to 6 , from front to rear
Yes, a disconnected or broken TACH wire from the HEI distributor cap can cause a '79 trans to fail to start.
lmao a 79 chevy shouldnt have a cable.... its just a hand latch in the grill..
I'm putting a distributor in my 79 ford 351 modified 400 351 crank but 400 big block .. i know it is off of time and the timing chain is still good .. but how do i time the 1st cylinder with the distributor . how do i get it firing in order ? The firing order of the 351 Cleveland, 351 Windsor, and 400 are all the same at 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 Rotor turns counterclockwise. Get the #1 piston, which is the piston on the front of the engine passenger side, at top dead center, (TDC) on the compression stroke. Turn the rotor on the distributor to the #1 spark plug on the distributor cap and insert the distributor into the engine. Time the engine with a timing light.
What is thw firing order for a 79 Honda goldwing
