As cursive writing was only invented in the 9 th Century BCE, our records are limited for earlier on. We have brief inscriptions in Egypt and Mesopotamia from the second and third millennia BCE, but nothing earlier, though the archaeological evidence and our knowledge of the way human beings act tell us that there were endless battles in the previous millennia. So the answer to the question has to be 'We don't know'.
Asking questions about first, last, biggest, smallest etc is rather unproductive as someone can usually think of something earlier, later etc etc. It is better to concentrate on what happened and why.
The first ever war is possibly the Kurukshetra War, in India, which may have took place as early as 3000 B.C
The first period of human life is called pre-history
Herodotus is considered to be the father of history. Herodotus was the first to record a historical event and that was the Persian War.
Ancient, in dealing with human history, is anything from the 5,000 years since human history was first recorded. This includes the Early Middle Ages and also the Postclassical era.
I would think that all wars share similarities such as suffering , greed , human pride , the desire for power , jealousy . The first thing that came to mind when your question was posted was Thucydides' "History of the Peloponnesian War" in which the reader sees encapsulated the politics , the debates , the human endeavour to prevail over the enemy and the tragedy of war in it's terror and suffering of the common man when stirred by nationalism and patriotism .
no
It brought about the biggest change to warfare in human history, comparable only to the creation of modern warfare from the First World War.

The Afghan war was the longest in American history with constant conflict. The Third Punic War is-technically-the longest war in human history, lasting 2134 years.Another View:The question was not about American history, but human history. It is nonsense to talk of the Carthaginians being 'technically' still at war today, when they were sold off into slavery at the end of the Third Punic War in 146 BCE and ceased to exist as a city, country or people. We do have The Hundred Years War 1337 to 1453 CE between England and France. In earlier times we had the Persian Wars 499-449 BCE.
Wars have been going on for thousands of years... so no genius Washington was not the "first in war history". The first in war history was probably one of your stinky, overly shagged ancestors who lives in a cave and eats wilderbeast for dinner.
