Elephants eat grass and leaves. They enjoy the juicy taste of tree sap and will often strip bark off a tree or uproot the tree altogether to get to the sap. The only real predator for elephants are humans.
There are scientific papers that demonstrate that mice harbor a bacteria which is released in their urine which is fatal to elephants (hence elephants are mortally fearful of mice).
If an elephant gets very old or very sick, the only wild animal which is theoretically strong enough to pull it down is (in Asia) a Tiger or (in Africa) a Lion. It is also said some (in Asia) tigers and (in Africa) lions will attack an elephant if it gets angry enough.
