the Ghost in Hamlet is very important because it drived Hamlet to discover the murderer.

The Ghost is the spirit of Hamlets father, Hamlet Senior.

The Ghost tells his son that because he was murdered; he will not be able to go to heaven and until someone discovers the murderer he will be lost is purgatory (a terrible place between heaven and hell). The Ghost is extremely important because without it Hamlet would not have

a) known his father was murdered

b) had any desire to find the murderer

and

c) sacrificed his own sanity to bring the truth to light.
