What is the fuse number for a cigarette lighter on a 1986-2008 Taurus - Sable?

Starting in 2001 the Owners Manual introduces the term "Power Points" and is used to specifically describe any cigar(ette) lighter outlet other than the one in the dashboard.

For all model years, it is a 20amp, yellow fuse

Model year 1986-1995, Fuse #11 - covers horns & lighter - is metal circuit breaker
Model year 1996, page 304 - #21 - 3rd row of fuses down, first one on the left

I used the following link and found it's No. 21 in the fuse panel. Good Luck... I keep having problems with the fuse blowing over and over.

In the fuse panel , below and to the left of the steering wheel , by the brake pedal
fuse # 21 is a 20 amp fuse for the cigar lighter and
fuse # 20 is a 5 amp fuse for the cigar lighter / remote entry / integrated control panel

The manual's diagram illustrates #21 but the box does not show any numbers on my 97 Taurus however the fuse cover shows the location..its the 6th from the bottom, yes its a yellow 20amp fuse. Note: if problem with lighter is not fuse...short power wire in back of element may have come loose.

Mine was fuse #18 in the box in the engine compartment (not under the dash). 20amp fuse.



In the passenger compartment fuse panel , under the dash , to the left of the
brake pedal - fuse # 21 is a 20 amp fuse for the cigarette lighter
In the fuse bus beneath the instrument panel on the left side. Be certain the battery is disconnected when you replace the fuse. There is a lot of amperage involved, and something caused the fuse to blow. Mind your fingers. We like to use a pair of insulated needle-nose pliers to replace fuses. They are easier to manipulate than fingers, and safer.
