What are the torque specifications and the tightening sequence of the cylinder head bolts on a 1996 Saturn SL1?
For the 1996 Saturn SL1 1.9 liter 4-cylinder, the torque in sequence one is 22 ft/lbs. In step two, torque in sequence to 37 ft/lbs. In step three, turn all the bolts 90 degrees and double check the final torque in the sequence.
"Roadwheel bolts....110Nm 81 lbf ft" per Haynes VOLVO S70, V70 &C70 1996 to 1999 Repair manual
This is a multi step process. 1. Torque all bolts starting in the middle and working your way diagonally to outside bolts torquing to 29 ft/lbs. 2. Torque all bolts again in same pattern to 54 ft/lbs. 3. Final torque to 72 ft/lbs.
You need to refer to the manual. But to partially answer the question, you will need to torque the head bolts in three stages. Two of those stages require a torque wrench and the third requires a torque angle measuring gauge. I ve dont this twice and you REALLY need a manual for this OR check some Volvo forums.
21ft lbs
For the 1996 Chevy S-10 4.3 liter, the torque specs for the crankshaft damper bolts is 70 ft. lbs. For the cylinder head bolts, the torque is 65 ft. lbs, and for the engine mount-to-head bolts, the torque is 35 ft. lbs. For the engine mount-to-frame bolts, the torque is 52 ft. lbs.
I just did an intake manifold job on a 1999 5.7L suburban. The intake manifold to the heads, note this sequence....from front to back on the passenger side 7,1,3,5......from front to back on the drivers side 8,4,2,6. Tighten # Tighten the bolts on the first pass in sequence (1-8) to 3 N·m (27 lb in). # Tighten the bolts on the second pass in sequence (1-8) to 12 N·m (106 lb in). # Tighten the bolts on the final pass in sequence (1-8) to 15 N·m (11 lb ft). Use Loc-tite blue on these bolts and follow the above sequence and torque levels.
your torque spec will be 65ft.lbs. Make sure you have the torque sequence too.
215 in. lbs
If it is a 1996 and later, 1-8 bolts 40 Ft/lbs...9-10 bolts 30 Ft/lbs...Then all bolts additional 90 degrees Standing in front of the car, tighten sequence looks like this... 9 3 1 5 7 10 6 2 4 8
85 N·m (8.5 kg-m, 61lb-ft)
