Jews were a very small population in the England during the 1000s-1200s and therefore little of import happened to them. The only notable thing prior to their forced departure in 1290 was the massacre of Jews at Clifford Tower in York in 1190. In 1657, Jews were once again allowed into England where they arrived in a small trickle, primarily as merchants.
Jews became integrated far more naturally in the United Kingdom than in most European countries. By the 1800s, Jews were already in Parliament and Benjamin Disraeli, an Anglican with Jewish parentage became the first head of government in any European country to be an ethnic Jew. British Jews joined fellow Britons in the colonization of both the New World and of the Old World, joining colonial settlements, in either governmental or commercial capacities. When Jews fled mainland Europe during and after the Holocaust, and when they fled the Arab World in the late 1940s and early 1950s, thousands of them arrived in Britain and became naturalized British citizens.
Jews remain an integral and important part of the British people.
