I have an '84 Eldorado, with the same engine. The timing is set after the engine is warmed up, running at 800 RPM or less. You must first disconnect the green connecter behind the distributor near the firewall. The setting is 10 degrees before top dead center (10 DEG BTDC). Although on an older car like this you'll find you get better performance by advancing it a little more. I set mine about 12-13 deg BTDC. Then don't forget to re-connect the green connector.
To find a diagram for the 1988 Cadillac Eldorado 4.5 liter engine you can consult their main website or contact local dealers.
how do i set my timeing on a 1992 cadillac v8 4.9 liter
How to change the injectors on a 1990 4.5 liter Cad. ElDorado engine?
If you mean ignition timing it will be 10 degrees BTC.
The 1993 Subaru Legacy 2.2 liter engine ignition timing is the sequence that allows the engine to run smoothly. The ignition timing is synchronized with the crankshaft position sensor.

Yes ANSWER No - a 1998 3.0 L Ford Ranger does not have a distributor which would allow you to adjust the ignition timing - it has a coil pack and the ignition timing is controlled by the PCM ( powertrain control module )
you probably need a tun up
10 degrees BTD
Look on the vehicle emissions control label it is there.
