The chief advantages of the federal system are;
Australia is a single trading block, it would be difficult to control trade movements in and out of the various countries that make up the federation of Australia of these country's were separately controlled and had to compete for goods with lower tariffs, duty's and taxes. There is also a distinct advantage in having a single defence force looking after national security.
