Follow the lower rad hose from the rad to the engine, the thermostat is located under the thermostat housing on the engine end (2X10mm head bolts). Notes: 1) if these bolts have not moved in a while it is likely best to spray them with oil for a bit, they are steel bolts in an alumnium housing located in an area almost impossable to get a drill to, so be careful. 2) using an aftermarket thermostat can give "mixed" results, the best choice is a Subaru OEM thermostat and gasket. 3) use a bit of grease on the bolts when replacing them for "next time".

On the bottom of the engine toward the left, front corner. Trace the lower radiator hose from the radiator back and the thermostat is in the plastic housing where that hose meets the engine.
