I believe that its to right a wrong while many whites complained about it and i think because they were racist. How 15 years of affirmative action could be equal to 350 years in chains I don't think so .I'm a old white dude liberal and live in Texas and easy to talk too. So many people my age tell me how unfair it is. So I let them know that when I was born a U.S. citizen , white, not Jewish and a male so only royalty had a higher social standing. That usually shuts them up

What is the main argument against affirmative action?

The main argument against affirmative action is that it can lead to reverse discrimination, where individuals from historically advantaged groups are unfairly disadvantaged in favor of less qualified candidates from underrepresented groups. Critics argue that this undermines meritocracy and can perpetuate racial tensions rather than promote true equality. Additionally, some believe that affirmative action can stigmatize beneficiaries by suggesting they are less capable or only succeed due to their background rather than their abilities.

What was the main issue in the debate over affirmative action?

The main issue in the debate over affirmative action revolves around the balance between promoting diversity and addressing historical inequalities versus ensuring equal treatment and opportunities for all individuals, regardless of race or background. Proponents argue that affirmative action helps rectify systemic discrimination and creates a more inclusive society, while opponents contend that it can lead to reverse discrimination and undermine meritocracy. This tension highlights broader societal questions about fairness, equity, and the role of government in addressing social injustices.
