Based upon Amendment Twenty-Two of the Constitution, no person can be elected to the office of President more than twice or serve more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President. Therefore, the total length of time that any person could serve as President is TEN years.
President can only be in office for 2 terms (each term 4 years long) so the maximum is 8 years.
According to the 22nd amendment, the longest time a president could now serve is 10 years.
Two full four year terms; plus if they were vice president and the president left office they can serve out the remaining years of the previous president's term in office. Harry S. Truman could have served two full terms as president, in addition to the time he was president for FDR who died in office. Lyndon B. Johnson could serve two full terms in addition to the time he was president after John F. Kennedy was killed (by Lee H. Oswald acting alone). Gerald R. Ford could have served two full terms as president in addition to the time he was president after Richard M. Nixon resigned.
there are approxmiately 20 or so presidents whom have served 2 terms more whom have served an entire two terms. only one president in our history has served 3 terms and died in service of his 4th and that was Franklin Roosevelt. Grover Clevelan served 2 terms but they were not consecutive ( back to back)
8 years. Only one President Franklin .D Roosevelt Ever served more. he served 16 years
10 years if 2 years is because the person took over as president. If not then it is 8 years or 2 terms.
4 years
8 years
They can't but, if the president could fire the vice president, this could mean that the person who is the vice president was not the person citizens voted for in the presidential elections. First, that could cause anger amongst people who would feel cheated/betrayed. Secondly, the president could carefully select who they wanted to be vice president so that the vice president agrees with everything the president says, giving more power to the president (turning the vice president into a 'puppet leader').
If the person is the president of a corporation which is called an industrial empire, he would probably not like to be called an emperor. If the person is a dictator who made himself emperor as well as president, I suppose you could call him an emperor. Emperor is usually a title applied to king-like figures. President usually indicates an elected leader. The two titles are contradictory.
A President can serve no more than two terms. In the event of someone becoming President during a term (if the President dies, is impeached and removed, etc.), that counts as one of the two terms if the new President serves at least two years. This means the absolute longest amount of time anyone could serve as President is nine years, 364 days.
Yes. If a person becomes president following the death or incapacity of his/her predecessor, and if the person serves less than one half of the predecessor's term, then that person can run for two terms on his/her own. So a person could in theory serve as president for up to 10 years minus one day. If more than half of the predecessor's term is filled by the person, then that person may have only one additional term.
Yes. The 4-year term for the office of president is part of the original Constitution. Also, there was no limit to the number of terms a person could have in the original Constitution.
The 22nd amendment limits presidents to a maximum term of just under 10 years. There is no corresponding limit for the vice-president; a person could theoretically be the vice-president for multiple presidents.
Well, it could last forever.
10 years (not 8) [novanet]
The longest a usual president can run for is 8 Years or 2 terms in office. However if he is a vice president and is needed to fill the seat of the president he could possibly serve a maximum of 10 years or 2 years 1/2 term plus his two elected terms. No president can run for three terms due to the 22nd amendment Ratified on February 27, 1951.

Though it is not stated, a person needs to be alive to be president of the US.
He must be 35 , same as the president or else he could not become president.
Such is not a legal requirement for US president, but there is no possible way that an illiterate person could be nominated , let alone win the election. Basic education is compulsory in the US so only a mentally handicapped person fails to read and write.
A person could announce in 2014 that he or she plans to run for President of the United States, but the election is not until 2016.
The answer depends on what the random variable is: it could be the number of heads, it could be the length of the longest sequence of heads (or tails), it could be the longest alternating sequence, and many other events. Since the event has not been defined, it is not possible to give a sensible answer.
