TYPES OF SENTENCES ACCORDING
TO STRUCTURE:
CLASSIFICATION (SORTS) OF SENTENCES
1.
A simple sentence:
A sentence that contains one independent clause and no subordinate clause.
I bought some books yesterday. Pakistan exports rice.
Students, teachers, and the Principal of our college went on a picnic by bus early in the morning. (one verb/one thought)

A compound sentence:
A sentence that contains two independent clauses of equal rank. (These clauses are generally joined with a comma and a co-ordinating conjunction- and, but, nor, or, for, and yet.)
Man is guided by reason, and beast by instinct.
She normally lives here, but she goes to Murree in summer.
He didn’t write me a letter, nor did he come to see me.

A complex sentence:
It contains one independent clause and one or more dependent (subordinate) clauses.
I know that you are a student.
The man
who was sitting under the tree was watching us.
He told us
that he could not buy stamps because they were out of stock.
I saw her when she arrived.
Where ignorance is bliss,
it is folly to be wise

A compound-complex sentence:
A sentence consisting of two or more independent clauses and one or more subordinate clauses.
We saw a family of elephants, but they didn’t notice our presence
because we were hiding behind bushes.
While we were crossing the river,

The word structure means to build by adding on. It can be a physical building, a structure being built, or used in language, as in a sentence has no structure.
It means it must be grammatically correct. The word spellings and the structure should be correct too.

BASIC SENTENCE PATTERN refers to sentence structure (means grammer and the correct tense). it also means that what is the main idea of your sentence, e.g.: jack is tall. this sentence main idea is to convey a message that he is tall.
The structure of the cake was high.
it is a complete sentence in its meaning but shorter or less than a complete sentence. but the sentence stem is lexicalized if its meaning is culturaly understood. also it is usually a set of fixed expressions which are arbitrary in terms of linguistic structure. for example: how's it going? / I'm sorry/ can I help you?/ and so many other examples
"Because she was sick" is not any type of sentence structure. It is called a sentence fragment.
