Answer:

The bottom line is that if the book of Daniel was a forgery written over 100 years before Jesus was born, then Jesus was a liar and could not have been the Messiah; because, in Matthew 24:15 Jesus endorsed the book of Daniel as being written "by the prophet Daniel."

On the other hand, if the book of Daniel was written by a true prophet of God, then Jesus must have been the Messiah because according to the Prophecy of Daniel 9, the Messiah must have came before the temple was destroyed in 70 AD.

There are seven 1260 (or 42 month or 3.5 year) timelines in five different prophecies throughout the books of Revelation and Daniel. But, they are not all the same event. Just like The Bible tells of many different events which all happened in 40 days (or 40 years). Same number but different events. It just shows that the hand of God is in it. The 1260 days of Daniel 12 is not the same as the 1260 days of Revelation 11. You can never understand the timelines if you make such assumptions. Each different timeline must be analyzed within the context of its own prophecy.

Daniel 12:11-12 says:

"From the time that the continual is taken away, and the abomination that makes desolate is set up, there shall be 1,290 days. Blessed is he who waits and comes to the 1,335 days."

The blessed time to wait for is "The Day of the Lord". It is Judgment day and it is called by many different names. (See 2 Pet 3:7, 2 Pet 3:10, 2 Pet 3:12, Rev 16:14, Rev 6:17, Zephaniah 1:18, Joel 2:31, 1 Thessalonians 5:2-3, 2 Cor 1:14, 1 Cor 1:8, Philip 1:6, and Philip 1:10). It is not one day long. It is the time of judgment. It starts when God intervenes to cut short the "great tribulation" (Mt 24:21-22), and it ends after the millennium (2 Pet 3:7, Rev 20:4-12). The start of the Day of the Lord (and thus the end of the great tribulation) is proclaimed by heavenly signs (Mt 24:29, Rev 6:12-17, Acts 2:20). When the Day of the Lord starts, then will take place Psalms 91:7-8. The saints who live to see the heavenly signs will live to see the coming of Christ for they will be supernaturally protected with the Seal of God (Rev 6:17-7:3, Rev 9:4).

The "great tribulation" will start with the "abomination that makes desolate" (Mt 24:15-21) which takes place at the end of the 1,290 days (Dan 12:11). This means that the great tribulation will be 45 days long. (1,335 - 1,290 = 45).

Don't be confused by Matthew 24. It had only a minor fulfillment in 70 AD but its major fulfillment (which will fulfill it completely) is still to come. The reason it is this way is because the disciples asked two different and unrelated questions (Mt 24:2-3). They thought that the destruction of the temple and the "close of the age" would be at the same time. But, since they could not at all understand a "second coming" of Christ at that time, Jesus gave the prophecy in such a way that both of the unrelated events were foretold within the same prophecy.

The taking away of the "continual" is what starts the 1,290 and 1,335 days. It is not the "continual sacrifice" or the "continual burnt offering." The Bible only says "The Continual" but it does not say what it is. For many centuries the assumption of it being the continual "sacrifice" has kept everyone from understanding it. This subject about the "continual" has a long and complex history, so I will just say that it can be logically proven that this "continual" is the "continual incense" and not the continual sacrifice. It is the incense which is a part of the mediation of the high priest. The incense for the mediation between man and God. Without this incense given by our true high priest, our prayers, and even our confession of sin, would stink and would not be acceptable to our heavenly Father. During the dark ages this incense was symbolically stolen from our true and only mediator in Heaven and was said to have been given to men so that they could be the bridge between man and God. This abomination was exposed centuries ago, and ever since the Protestant Reformation everyone who truly seeks truth over tradition has easily seen the truth of this matter. The taking away of "the continual" mentioned in Daniel 8:11 and Daniel 11:21 was by the activity of the Papacy, but the continual will be taken away yet again. The "continual" being taken away in Daniel 12:11 is a future fulfillment. The continual incense of the mediation of Christ will not be taken away in the future by the Papacy, nor can it be taken away by the same method. The prayers and confession of sin will once again be redirected from Jesus who is in Heaven to one who is on Earth, but, this time it will not be to a man who claims to have been put "in place of Jesus," but to a non-human being who people will believe is Jesus.

For over 2,000 years the Son of Perdition has been restrained from visibly revealing himself to the world. At the appointed time God will lift this restraint and the wicked one will be visibly revealed so that he can perform his ultimate deception. The Accuser himself will appear along with all of his angels in a glorious counterfeit of the second coming of Christ, and through signs and wonders and great deeds he will delude the whole world into thinking that he is Jesus Christ. After God lets the fallen angels visibly reveal themselves, The Accuser will take his seat in the Church and he will rule the world in such a way that the popular belief that he is Jesus will increase. From the time that he appears "the continual" from Christ will be taken away because people will redirect their worship. The great tribulation will start 1,290 days after Satan is visibly revealed. The great tribulation will end 45 days later when God cuts it short with the start of the day of the Lord. The wicked will try to wipe the saints from the earth, but God will intervene and he will wipe the wicked from the earth. The appearing of Jesus will come at an unknown time after the day of the Lord starts. When the Day of the Lord starts, the heavenly signs will appear (MT 24:29), and the saints will be given "the seal of God" (Rev 7:3) to supernaturally protect them through the time of God's wrath (Psalms 91:7-8, Rev 9:4). God's wrath will be against the followers of the counterfeit Christ who tried to kill all on Earth who would not worship the Counterfeit Jesus.

The purpose of the Daniel 12 timeline is so that the saints can evangelize as long as possible and then head for the hills before it is too late.

The 1,260 days of Daniel 12:5-9 ends "when the shattering of the power of the holy people comes to an end." That will be when the day of the Lord starts. Thus, "the shattering of the power of the holy people" should start 75 days after the Son of Perdition is visibly revealed.

The Daniel 7:25 timeline gives the time of authority of the Papacy. The authority of the Bishop of Rome comes from the claim that he is the Vicar of Jesus Christ, that is, he is in place of Jesus until the second coming of Christ. Thus, when the Accuser counterfeits the second coming of Christ, the claim of the authority of the Popes will end. Therefore the end of the Daniel 7:25 timeline should give the year that God will finally let Satan visibly reveal himself so that he can do his ultimate deception (2 Thess 2:6, 11-12). According to Sir Issac Newton (fantastically famous English Physicist), the Daniel 7:25 timeline started in the year 800 AD and should end 1,260 years later in 2060 AD. I agree. I believe that all timelines that start before the "time of the end" (Daniel 11:35, 40) have a day equals a year translation (thus, 1,260 days would be 1,260 years), but any timeline starting after the beginning of "the time of the end" do not translate days to years. Therefore, the 1290 days, 1335 days, and the 3.5 "times" (1260 days) of Daniel 12 are as they are. This can be logically proven that it must be so, for the generation that sees the "Abomination that makes desolate" (Dan 12:11, Mt 24:15) will be the same generation that sees the second coming of Christ (Mt 24:34).

Much study has been made of supposedly hidden numbers in Daniel. Before taking these too seriously, it must be remembered that the Book of Daniel was not written by a person called Daniel who lived during the Babylonian Exile - it is clearly a second century BCE forgery written by an unknown author.

The Jewish attitude is one of "Those who say, don't know; and those who know, don't say." Many quills have been broken in trying to interpret these verses, in what is a waste of effort, since their meaning is to be concealed, as stated by Daniel himself (12:9). Very many predicted dates have come and gone, so normative Jews do not attempt to provide precise predictions. See also:
