Stony Ridge was a landmark, which Stonewall Jackson defended rigorously on August 29th, 1862. A farm now sits on the site, which is adjacent to Manassas National Battlefield Park.

Originating in the Basque region of Spain, Arzate is a topographic name for someone living in a mountain pass that is named for its abundance of stones. From artza 'stony place' (from (h)ar(ri) 'stone' + -tza 'abundance of') + ate 'pass'.
During the US Civil War, Native Tribes in the North Dakota Territory staged a revolt against the Federal government in July of 1862. The battle was part of the Dakota Wars and in 1862, the Sioux Tribe escaped the Federal forces sent to end the rebellion.
