I suggest to check the fluid level with the car running and after it has warmed up. I always smell the fluid on the dipstick as well to make sure there isn't a burnt smell. Also check for any blackish brownish kind of guck on the end of the dipstick. It is suggested to change Transmission Fluid every 30,000 miles.
