Check the evaporative canister under the hood for raw fuel. It is that black can with vacuum and wires running to the top. Good answer above. If you fill the tank and smell it, but it goes away after the fuel level goes down, you could have a leak where the fill tube joins the tank. There could even be a leak in the tank itself.
