Sometimes hardware cannot run without problems on Linux-based operating systems. To solve this, NDISwrapper emulates a Windows environment within Linux, which allows Linux to communicate with the hardware without binary emulation.
ndiswrapper in an app that fools the wireless windows driver to work with linux.
ndiswrapper is not included by default in the LiveCD, but it is available from the repositories.
The card is not natively supported, but it can be made to work using ndiswrapper.
It works well using ndiswrapper on Mandriva 2007 but it is not natively supported.
You can use a program called NDISWrapper. It will use the Windows driver for your network card and allow it to be used in Linux.
Two ways: 1. Go to Applications > Accessories > Terminal 2. Type in 'sudo apt-get install ndiswrapper' Or, if you cannot access internet, it is included on the CD: 1. Insert CD 2. Go to terminal, type in 'sudo mount /dev/cdrom /cdrom' 3. Go to System > Administration > Software Sources 4. Check the box next to "Ubuntu [version number]" under "Install from CD" 5. Exit and let it refresh 6. Go to System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager 7. search for "ndiswrapper" and tick the result that should come up 8. Click OK and let it install
This requires installing ndiswrapper and "wrapping" the Windows drivers. There are no native Linux drivers for your wireless card yet. You can find a more detailed tutorial in the Related links section below.
Unfortunately, many wireless cards are still not supported in Linux distributions, because the manufacturers refuse to release any product specifications in order to write drivers. There are a couple ways around this problem: 1. Install a proprietary driver package, such as MadWifi or bcm-fwcutter. If you can connect to the internet using Ethernet, these should be easily installable from Synaptic. 2. Install ndiswrapper, and "wrap" an existing Windows driver. This option is less desirable, but it is still the only way to get some devices to work. ndiswrapper can also be installed through Synaptic. You will also need a Windows 2000 / XP driver forthe card.
With the exception of wireless card drivers (using the ndiswrapper module), Windows device drivers cannot be used in Linux. Windows applications can be run using Wine, with compatibility and stability depending on the program. Wine can be installed from the command line on Trisquel using the command "sudo apt-get install wine."
the purpose of this is to have a purpose
What is the purpose of this sentence?I did not do that on purpose.
Opinions vary as to the purpose of the best sentence for the use of the word 'purpose'. This serves no purpose. I reached out to the porpoise on purpose.
