Dude, you just asked a really complicated question

Colonialism is the establishment, maintenance, acquisition and expansion of Colonyin one territory by people from another territory. Colonialism is a process whereby Sovereigntyover the colony is claimed by the Metropoleand the Social_structure, Government, and Economicsof the colony are changed by colonists. (according to wiki) =)

So Orientalism is an extension of Colonialism in which the Orient serves as "The Other" to represent culturally and ideologically what Western civilization is. The West is 'normal' and the East is 'Backwards.' For Europe the Orient refers more to the Middle East and Islam but for America it is more about the "Far East" so Japan and China. Orientalism can be found in everything from art to science, and a large part of it is found in academia.

Post-Colonialism are the effects, economically, politically, etc, that can be felt in former colonies- obviously the majority of the world. It gives the impression that colonialism is over, and it is but!...

There is also Neo-Colonialism, which is a new form of control over other countries that most often takes the form of economic dependence. So it is no longer acceptable for a country to 'rule' Another Country but now corporations will go to Post-colonial countries and make them economically dependent. Neo-Colonist countries can also use more covert methods to control a country like funding certain political parties or providing arms and instigating a war etc…

Consequently, an extension of Neo-Colonialism, to make these actions 'ok' is 'Neo-Orientalism,' or a new Western representation of these places to make them seem uncivilized, or that they need help, or that they are backward, and then to display the success of intervention. The most obvious example is American representation of Islamic and Middle Eastern nations. Ie Saddam Hussein is uncivilized but the people are good people and they need our help to get him out. So Let's integrate democracy and show a picture of a veiled women with ink (shows that she voted) on her finger (a 'oppressed/minority' person who now has so much). Representation of Women is essential to both old and new forms of Orientalism. In Neo-Orientalism, corporations and corporate structure is also essential.

Obviously there is a lot more than that, but that's it in a nutshell. Hope it helps =)
