Here are a variety of experiences bad and good.

Good

  • I have read several things about Pleintas on the internet. There are positive and negative experiences but I thought that I would learn better from first hand so I traveled to Argentina last January. I didn't have dental implants but I know that they use highly qualified dentists. I had BA and LBL and I am very impressed with the results. I had a very good service from Plenitas. From the time I arrived to Buenas Airies I felt I was in the best hands. It was a great experience, the doctor was kind and the staff was helpful and friendly. I didn't like the hotel so I decided to change my lodging. I have never been to South America before but the people from Argentina were very nice and it was easy to understand their language. Nevertheless, most part of the people speaks English. I suggest continuing to look for information.
  • My experience with Plenitas was excellent and I recommend it to anybody. I went for several dental implants. The person who did them was an excellent professional. Very warm. All Plenitas staff are to serve you. Nothing to say but to recommend them.
  • My experience with Plenitas was excellent. Since the assistance of their Patients Information Centre where I purchased my package to the bilingüal assistant, everybody was great. The doctor was very warm and professional. The clinic is very clean, and excellent nurses. Nothing to say but to recommend them. I couldn't have had a remake of myself if without their exceptional price.

Bad

  • Many people strongly advice against going there.
  • Please do not consider Plenitas as your representative company for any plastic surgery. My mother, my grandmother, and myself, all travelled to Argentina in August 2007. All three of us underwent surgery. Due to complications (for all 3 of us) we had to spend almost 6 weeks there, thus having to pay for flight rearrangements and extended accommodation. Plenitas are irresponsible, unorganised, and quite frankly do not care about the patients results or well-being so long as they get your money. One of my breast implants was not placed correctly and ripped my muscle resulting in internal bleeding, due to the haematomas the breast swelled 3 times the size and I couldn't breathe properly due to the pressure on my diaphragm. Plenitas were called immediately and a doctor requested to come to the hotel asap, I was told to wait till tomorrow and they would try to book me in with the doctor during surgery hours. After frantically arguing for a doctor to attend straight away they got off the phone, did not call back and refused to answer further calls. My mother had to speak to the hotel to call out an emergency doctor which was ridiculously expensive and also left me in absolute agony for almost 2 hours. When the doctor saw me I was rushed to hospital in an ambulance, given a morphine drip and made to wait in this state two days until they performed 'emergency' surgery, which incidentally I was recharged the whole price of a breast enlargement surgery. My grandmothers arm lift also caused problems when the day after surgery the stitches came out all down one arm leaving her with a long, deep open wound revealing her muscle tissue. It took them two days to sew her back up. In her consultation, my mother had requested smaller implants than the ones she presently had in place and woke up after surgery with 40cc LARGER implants and unsymmetrical positioned nipples, this resulted in a second surgery. Mistakes happen and one would be acceptable, but for all three patients? That is not coincidental, that is negligence. And not a single apology was uttered at any point. Plenitas will also do their best to confuse you with prices and extort more money out of you ONCE you have ALREADY received your quote and flown all the way there. And obviously once you have spent the money on flights, travelled all the way there, and mentally prepared yourself for surgery your not in much of a position to refuse. Please stay away from Plenitas. I hate to think of anyone having to endure the mental and physical stresses we did.
  • I have just returned from having face surgery and breast augmentation with Plenitas. They didn't tell me it would be two separate surgeries until the day before my surgery. This really messed up my whole plan of time off from work, having someone there to take care of me, recovery time, etc. I developed a hematoma from the face surgery due to not having a drain inserted, which is very common practice. It's been 49 days and I still have it! I ended up having an open wound the size of 50 cent piece because they manually drained the hematoma daily for 4 days, then still didn't put a drain in when I had the breast augmentation. The tissue became necrotic behind my ear and now I have a huge scar that goes down my neck. In addition to this, the skin gathered up from the daily manual drainings of the hematoma, which may require additional surgery to loosen it. It pulls the skin down on my face. The main surgeon, whom you NEVER see except the minute before your surgery and never thereafter, made my nipples uneven, one is shaped differently than the other. The incisions opened up on my areaolas as well and became necrotic. The areola was totally separated from the skin. Luckily, I am a nurse and know a lot about wound care, so I didn't lose my nipple, but now will have ugly scars on my areolas. I had beautiful nipples before the surgery. I have emailed Plenitas since returning but to no avail. Nothing from them. I have sent photos for them to show to the main surgeon so he doesn't make the same mistakes, but have heard nothing. Do not use them. I have had to spend additional 2 grand so far to see a plastic surgeon here in the states and still may need a skin graft to the neck area as well as removing that skin that has gathered and adhesed to loosen it . I wish I had known this before. Their representatives paint a wonderful picture. Do go to Buenas Aires, but only to vacate. Or to get dental implants. I haven't heard of any problems with that. I met many patients staying at the Howard Johnson and wounds were getting infected big time. Everyone but 2 had complications. Not only that, but they tried to get out of a refund they owed me and they gave me the run around.
  • I had a terrible experience with them. To begin, only their sales people speak English, doctors and staff can hardly communicate that is very scary when you talk about surgery. There are many reasons for your trip to go wrong as I have seen many patients in the waiting room and they all had very different issues with the company. To sum it up, once you pay your down payment upfront your are in a mess. Money usually goes to a 'front' account in Uruguay and then, to be able to sue when something goes wrong, you are asked to pay some $15000 only to begin the trial in a foreign country. I have stopped trying to get my money back through legal actions, it is not worth my $4500 and the expenses incurred. So, hopefully, this post can save someone else from sending all their savings to this dubious company. Good luck everyone and don't forget to consider the risks.
  • I had work done, implants..they came out because they were not installed correctly. I also had infection from a tooth removal. I would not use their service again.
  • Plenitas is not a reliable medical services company. Do not consider them if you value you health, or your money. They rescheduled my surgery twice, costing me the price of my airfare, and refused to refund my money, paid in advance in full, in a timely fashion.
  • Do not go there. My wife and I payed to go to Plenitas to have IVF to have a child. When her health did not allow for this, we cancelled and wanted 70% of our money back as promised. After months of calling and emailing, we had the Canadian Embassy call them and finally got an email. They told me they were in a financial crisis and could only pay us in installments. That was six months ago. When they kept making excuses that the bank info we sent them would not work, I told them I'd pay to have them wire me the money. That was in Jan 2009 and I've yet to hear back. They took our money. Not only can we not have children, but Plenitas stripped us of $10,000 we borrowed to try this technique. They've since taken their staff emails off of the net, what a terrible experience. Do not use this company, they are not most certainly recommended.

Can you issue a complaint over the results of cosmetic surgery?

If a patient is dissatisfied with the results of a cosmetic surgery procedure they can file a complaint...of sorts. A common forum to voice dissatisfaction from a Cosmetic Surgeon and their procedure are to discuss your experience on Social Media websites. Many Surgeons have their information on the internet at these sites, which are like report cards for the Surgeon. On these sites one can see the results and reputation of their past patients. Engaging in these communities could be a good way to "file a complaint" outside of seeking retribution or correction.
