The chairman of the lodge or the worshipful master symbolizes the universe and stands in the east where the rising of the sun occurs the brothers who are of different degrees are lined along the columns in the lateral bays according to their degrees in the north and the south and the entrance to the lodge is always from the west after certain signs have been passed to the tyler who makes sure that everyone coming into or leaving the lodge are either brothers or visitors known to the lodge this is to ensure the secrecy of the location and keeps prying eyes of the profane world and the significance of their ritual signing is agreed by all brothers not to be given once and for all and will remain in the course of their work only
