I had to write this as some idiot had put that the answer was "homophone" - which actually means, literally, "sounding the same" (as in "bread", a loaf of; and "bred" - brought up or reared). Why answer questions like these if you're going to put the wrong answer?!
I do believe the answer to this question is "homograph" - although I can't remember ever coming across the word before; it was googling that led me to this question and "answer" page.
Example of a pair of homographs: lead (as in, the metal - pronounced to rhyme with "bed") and lead (as in, to direct - pronounced to rhyme with "heed").
