Most of them topped out between 110-120 MPH.
My 1994 Trans Am does, it will go up to 110. I found out that the top speed of a 1994 Firebird or Trans Am is 156 mph.
With the 4 speed manual trans, 95 mph. With the automatic trans, 93 mph.

speedometer probably only goes to 85 on that vehicle but it will go over 100, 78's were great looking cars but no horsepower.

Depends on what your interpretation of "faster" is. Top speed, 0 to 60...etc. What engine, transmission and rear end gears? I can tell you this...the 78 Camaro had a 305.....maybe a 350. The 78 T/A was available with a Pontiac 400. More horsepower and torque than the Camaro. Both cars with the same drive train and gearing...with the top engine offered for both cars....the T/A is "faster".

The Trans Am was introduced March in 1969, and was called Trans Am after the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Trans-American Challenge Cup in which Pontiac wanted to compete. Pontiac originally wanted their top-end Firebird to be called the Sebring, but as it turned out, Chrysler trademarked the name first. On a side note, General Motors paid the SCCA $5 for every Trans Am sold.
