I have a 1990 s10 x cab with 4.3 v6. The transmission in them are the same ones they put in the full size trucks. I towed about 3200#'s 1600 miles with no problems at all. I've heard they can pull up to about 5000#'s, as long as as the oil and fluids are in good or new shape. Hope it can help,
