In the study and the practice of science positive attitudes are very important. Thomas Edison was curious,he had perseverance ,sceptical,humble. For perseverance we have a saying , he said(in my own words) that he tried and invented more thn 100 bulbs until he got one perfect. So he never gave up.

Lots. His primary competitor and rival was Nicola Tesla. Tesla was more the scientific type; Edison was an inventor and tinkerer, without Tesla's depth of scientific knowledge and understanding. But Edison was better at marketing. Even in the late 1800's, marketing and packaging was more important to commercial success than actual genius.
