What is the typical temperature of a household freezer?

Your freezer should be set at −18 °C (0 ºF) or lower, but definitely not above −10 ºC (14 ºF).

Ice cream will start to soften between −14 °C (6 °F) and −12 °C (10 °F) (well for serving, but not for longer storage). Some yeasts can start to grow around 15°F. Freezing does not kill bacteria but can slow their growth and keep food edible for much longer.

A industrial freezer should be set at around −21 °C (−6 °F). A colder freezer renders frost fine so as not to break up cells and speed evaporation, and a fuller freezer stays at temperature longer and with smaller power consumption.
