Cellulite is not actually a thing, but it's more like a condition brought on by the arrangement of connective tissue and adipose (fat) tissue in females. It mostly has to do with the body reinforcing the abdominal, hip, and thing areas in females and most likely related to childbirth.

Connective tissue can be thought of as the plastic wrap of the body. It is used to hold things together as well as give strength and support to certain structures. In most places this is arranged in parallel rows, but in the hips and thighs of women it has double layers, one on top of the other, and they are arranged perpendicular to each other, or crosswise. This gives added strength for this part of the body during pregnancy to help hold in the expanded uterus and the accompanying fat that women get during this time.

If there is excess fat in this area, other than during pregnancy, as the fat pushes up against these layers, the areas where the cross-hatch pattern created by the double layers going crosswise to each other, which sort of resembles a checkerboard, pulls in tighter and created the appearance of pock marks that people refer to as cellulite. It's where the corners of the pieces of the checkerboard meet that get pulled down and the spaces on the checkerboard puff up. That's the best analogy I can think of to describe what is happening to make it look the way id does.

Another thought on the subject. If you're thinking of Liposuction, think of a vacuum hose going in there an sucking out not only the fat but the connective tissue that is designed to hold everything in. There is no way of removing the fat since since they are both together in what's called superficial fascia. It may look better for a while, but they is a real risk that after a while, without the structural support, fatty deposits may reform, but without any supportive mesh to hold them in it may end up looking orse because it will be blotching and uneven. Plus, since only certain fat cells store fat, it you remove them from an area of the body, the body will store fat in other places, mostly at random, and you could end up with extra packets of fat anywhere from you neck, arms, back, torso, legs, etc. That may be even more of a problem in appearance than the cellulite areas of the thighs.

My best advise is to loose the fat that causes the appearance of cellulite through exercise and diet. And then get massage in the area to help relieve the stress on the connective tissues that are pulling down the pock marked areas.
