The "Stars & Stripes" In the top left corner, there are 50 white stars representing the 50 states in the union contained in a navy blue square (which is the color of the union). On the rest of the flag, there are 13 horizontal alternating red and white stripes (beginning with red and ending with red) which represent the original 13 colonies originally under British Rule before the Declaration of Independence and the Revolutionary War. These include Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.
