Is it electric or oil ? How tall and what is the condition, any chips or cracks ? What style of lamp, ie Gone with the Wind, fairy, etc. Do you have any history on it ? The value depends on all of the criteria mentioned.

There is no way to answer that question without knowing what piece in particular you are asking about. Fenton made hundreds of pieces of glassware over a large span of years, and they are still making glassware. If you have a lot of pieces to value, I might suggest a good ID and price guide, it would be worth the investment. I has 2 by Wittmayer [sp?] that were excellent, with full color pictures of many of the pieces.

Why can't you operate a lava lamp on a glass surface?

Glass melts at between 900 degrees F and 1650 degrees F while the lamp operates at an estimated 100-130 degrees F, however, differential temperature changes, especially rapid changes in temperature may cause a glass surface to crack. The lamp is made of glass, and the bottom of the lamp usually has a felt pad, so there is no mechanical reason why the lamp may not be used on a glass surface except it may slip, and the manufacturer's instructions specifically state DO NOT operate the lamp on glass surfaces.
