Lord Mountbatten who was Supreme Commander South East Asia Command in 1944 planning the re-capture of Burma from the Japanese from his Headquarters in Ceylon. In December of 1944 he visited the Training Ship Dufferin where I was the Ceylon Cadet among 150 Indian Cadets trained by mainly British Officers and was presented with the Runner-up for the Viceroy's Gold Medal which consisted of War Bonds. He was given a great reception during his presentation of the prizes and three cheers when his barge left the ship from the cadets standing on the rigging of both masts. His elegance and bearing was exemplary for an Admiral. One other thought was his decision to select the Burmese Cadet to go behind enemy lines before the Battle for Burma began.
