Stevens was founded in 1864 in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. Savage in Utica, New York, in 1894. Savage purchased the Stevens plant and name in 1920 and continued to make guns with the Stevens name in the Chicopee Falls facility until the late 1940's. According to the stevens reference files the gun was made between 1936 - 1945, approximately 100,000 were made. As far as value?
Savage/Stevens.
Savage Arms bought Stevens in 1920, and from 1920 through 1946 guns were made under both names at the Savage plant in Utica NY and at the Stevens plant in Chicopee Falls MA. In 1946, all operations were merged into the Chicopee Falls location, and then all operations were subsequently moved to Westfield MA in 1959. sales@countrygunsmith.net
savage arms company was located in chicopee falls mass. from 1946-1960.
Savage Arms didn't move to Westfield until 1961. So being that Savage owned Stevens I'm guessing it's around that time. Not sure what year the 58 was introduced and discontinued, but I'm guessing a bulk of them were made in Chicopee Falls, or Utica, NY.
The Stevens Model 58 Salvage Shotgun with no serial number was probably manufactured in the early 1940's in Chicopee Falls MASS. It's value could range from $400.00 to $ 1500.00 depending on condition. If it has the Chicopee Falls Mass manufacturer on the barrel a good starting point is $ 500.00 and up depending on condition.
My Dad bought me a new 87B Stevens in 1954. Still have it. Bill D.
