== English isn't all that easy. The writing doesn't match the pronounciation very well. There are irregular verbs, little standardization to past perfect forms, irregular plural forms of nouns and a huge vocabulary. There is no single answer to the question. It depends on your native language(s) and on other languages that you already know. For native speakers of English, learning Spanish or Italian is relatively easy, while Arabic, Hungarian and Japanese for example are hard. Due to inflictions from a host of sources including Saxon, Latin, French and Celtic tongues, English is one of the most complicated languages on earth, making it among if not the most difficult language to learn. A reinforcement of this is the fact that there are more illiterate English-speaking children than those that speak any other language. Answer It's not an easy question to answer but I'll have a go. Everyone learns their native language successfully during childhood. It's no more difficult for an English child to acquire English than it is say for a Chinese child to acquire Mandarin (or vice versa) and the same applies for any nationality or language group.

But in terms of foreign languages different people may find different languages hard. You would have to take a person's first (native) language, age, gender in to account as well as the method by which they have acquired the language, literacy level, motivation and reason for the learning the language and previous language learning experience to get a fuller picture.

I disagree with the comments claiming English is most difficult. Though it may be the case for some people depending on the factors mentioned above. English has very few inflections and no gender or case agreements as with many other languages so it definitely is not that complex. Although the tenses, phrasal verbs and irregular spelling can make English difficult to learn for some. However a lot more non-native English speakers learn English successfully in comparison to native English speakers who learn other languages with success. Many non-native English speakers in my opinion can even speak English better than the natives.

All languages have their difficulties which can make them difficult for a foreigner. Slavonic languages (Russian, Polish, Serbian etc) are considered to be very tough due to the extensive case and gender systems. Far Eastern languages likewise but due to the complex sound systems. Finnish, Turkish inflect an awful lot. A lot of Eastern languages from South Asia & the Far East have completely different word order to most European languages. Native American languages are very conceptual with extensive spoken systems.
