Binghamton, known as the Carousel Capital of the World, is home to six wooden carousels. The carousels operate from Memorial Day through Labor Day and are free of charge to riders of all ages. As an added bonus, complete the carousel circuit (ride all six and collect the different colored cards from each site) and you will receive a commemorative pin to mark your achievement! The carousels are located in Binghamton, Endicott, Endwell and Johnson City. Another attraction in the Binghamton area is the Ross Park Zoo on Park Avenue. This is the fifth oldest zoo in the United States. The zoo is open from April until October and hosts many fun and exciting events such as Boo at the Zoo and Feast with the Beasts.
Traveling with young children? Try exploring the Discovery Center which is located right next to the Ross Park Zoo. This is a hands on interactive learning facility which has thirty play and learn exhibits where children can "dig, drive, fly, shop, hop, perform and paint" their way to hours of fun.

Try catching a hockey game at the Broome County Veteran's Memorial Arena where you can cheer on the 2011 Calder Cup Champions, the Binghamton Senators. Prefer Baseball? Bring your glove down to NYSEG stadium from April through September and watch the minor league baseball team the Binghamton Mets, take on their Eastern league rivals. Also, be sure to check out the Binghamton University campus in nearby Vestal. The Division one Bearcats' 156,000 square foot Events Center seats 6,000 for College Basketball games and are always chock full of excitement.
Hungry? The Binghamton area is home to the Spiedie. The Spiedie either consists of cubes of pork, lamb, beef, or more commonly, chicken, and is marinated in a special sauce. The meat is grilled on skewers and then served on a submarine roll. If you can, try and check out the annual Spiedie Fest and Balloon Rally at Otsiningo Park, that celebrates this regional dish.
Binghamton is also only a few hours drive from Syracuse, Watkins Glen, Scranton etc. It is in the confluence of three main highways - I-81, I-88 and NY-17 (future I-86).
