Modern art is vast and keeps changing with new innovations and ideas. so basically traditional art is about preserving classic ideas, and modern is about new and innovative ideas
Actually, the effect was the other way around. Traditional African art affected the European art greatly in the 20th century, for example Picasso's painting 'Les Demoiselles d'Avignon'- his painting that was to be a starting point to the style known as "Cubism"- was greatly affected by traditional African art.
Personally, I think any art is important to life! Art is a way to let out something unique and personal about yourself.Weather it's traditional, or modern, art should be a staple in anyone's life.
