There is no 'hard and fast' answer to this question. The gas mileage of a vehicle equipped with a V8 engine can vary widely depending on such factors as the type of vehicle, size and weight of the vehicle, transmission type (auto vs manual), gear ratios, displacement of the V8 engine, state of tune of the engine (ie mild street tune vs a wild, cammed race motor), and the type of fuel system (ie carburetor vs EFI). With this said, the fuel economy of an aerodynamic V8 powered sports car with an overdrive manual transmission can actually be quite good. Some can even do as well as 30MPG or more on the freeway. On the other hand, a full-sized pickup or large SUV with a big V8 can struggle to do as well as 20MPG on the freeway.
