Sounds like you opened up the brake lines to compress the calipers. You will need to bleed all four wheel cylinders to regain pressure. Fill the brake reservoir with brake fluid and have someone pump the brakes until some pressure is noticeable ( sometimes if no pressure can be seen you will need to proceed to the next step anyways and eventually you will get it). have them hold the pedal all the way down while you release the bleed valve on the wheel cylinder. Just a 1/4 turn is all that is necessary.
You should get a little air and maybe some fluid out. Close the valve and have your helper repeat the pump and hold part. Do not let your helper release the pedal until you have closed the valve or more air will be sucked up into the lines.
You will continue to do this until all you get is clean brake fluid and no air at all, you may need to refill the reservoir from time to time. Repeat this for the other 3 wheels, each one you do will improve the pedal pressure you get, but do not stop until yo have done them all. The reason is that you have introduced air to the system, air compresses more easily than the fluid the system uses and the short stroke of the piston cannot build up enough pressure to activate the brakes.. you need to reemove all the air. Next time compress the calipers without releasing the bleed valve, this is usually done with a c clamp or a special tool available at the parts store.
Under the van, under the drivers floor board.
It is located on the floor below dash cupsholders.
If the parking brake pedal on your 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 is stuck to the floor, you might have broken the parking brake cable. Remove the rear tires to see if the cable is still attached and replace it as needed.
In the compartment at floor level, driver side, beside tailgate.
Water is leaking on passenger side floor board when heat is on
Gradual Loss of brake pedal height (pedal sinks to floor)? but fluid level proper--internal leak Loss of brake fluid? Back of master cylinder (where is attaches to booster) wet with brake fluid? External Remove master cylinder and see if booster has fluid in bottom (bad real seal)
No Good, Excessive brake travel!
It is under the van, between the front seats. The access for the winch is just infront of the floor console.
Was it replaced with a new one or a remanufactured one? I have seen problems with remaunufactured units as the core is not adequetley rebuilt.
What is the best underlayment when replacing a floor and why?
master cylinder is bad or air in brake system or you have a brake fluid leak somewhere in the system. look on the back side of the wheels in the rear and see if you see fluid. On the front you can easily see both the front and rear side and see if you see fluid. Sounds like a brake fluid leak somewhere as it is a closed system or did you replace the shoes or pads and didn't bleed the air out of the system.
it is under the floor pan between the front seats you have to crank it down and then fish it out from under the vehicle
